Goodrich signs lean-burn agreement

Goodrich Corporation has signed a research agreement with Rolls-Royce to develop the next generation of fuel nozzles for 'lean burn' combustion technology systems in aircraft.

Goodrich Corporation has signed a research agreement with Rolls-Royce to develop the next generation of fuel nozzles for lean-burn combustion technology systems, which would be used on future gas-turbine aircraft engines.

Goodrich has also been selected to supply Rolls-Royce with the combustion system fuel nozzles for the new Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engine programme for the Airbus A350XWB commercial aircraft. All work will be performed by Goodrich's Engine Components team in West Des Moines, Iowa.

According to Goodrich, lean-burn technology allows for a more complete combustion cycle, which reduces emissions and increases efficiency. Goodrich's lean-burn research and development programme focuses on advanced combustion fuel nozzles designed to meet requirements for reduced emissions on next-generation aircraft. Lean-burn technology can significantly reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and improve local air quality around airports.
