Green light for Wuhan project

A Siemens-led consortium has been awarded a 20 month contract worth €7.9m to establish a modern urban traffic control system (UTC) in Wuhan, China.

The project will equip more than 420 junctions with complete traffic control technology including CCTV monitoring, traffic detection, traffic lights and the latest communication system linking a main control centre and two sub-centres in Wuhan.

The UTC systems will co-ordinate traffic signal timing to increase traffic flow and reduce delays at road junctions, helping to optimise journey times and improve the efficiency of the transport network.

Consortium members include Siemens Limited China Industrial Solutions and Services (SLC I&S) as consortium leader, Siemens International Trading Shanghai (SITL), and Wuhan E-Fly Technology. The project is being financed by the World Bank and represents the biggest single awarded contract for UTC systems in China.
