Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) will formally commission the Glendoe hydroelectric scheme following successful trials of its electricity generation equipment.
The energy group ran the station at 100MW capacity for 24 hours at the Glendoe site near Loch Ness in preparation for the handover to SSE’s Generation Operations division later in December 2008.
Glendoe is the first large-scale conventional hydroelectric station in the
SSE said it is committed to developing hydroelectric schemes in
Ian Marchant, chief executive of SSE, said: ‘I've been very pleased to see for myself such good progress at Glendoe and to see this important stage in the commissioning of the scheme being reached.
'I'm also pleased that it should coincide with the 10th anniversary of SSE being formed, which takes place this weekend.’
