Intelsat has announced that it has completed its acquisition of PanAmSat for approximately $6.4 billion, creating the world’s largest commercial fixed satellite services provider.
Intelsat acquired all of the outstanding common shares of PanAmSat for approximately $3.2 billion, the remaining cost covering PanAmSat’s outstanding debt. PanAmSat is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Intelsat.
The new company has a combined fleet of 51 satellites and a terrestrial infrastructure including eight owned teleports, fibre connectivity and over 50 points of presence in almost 40 cities.
Intelsat intends to run the new company as a single operation and says it expects to fully integrate PanAmSat’s assets and operations.
