ABB has been awarded $8.5m by South Korea’s LSIS to install flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) at a steel plant in Japan.

has received an order worth $8.5m (£4.5m) to install flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) at the Asia Special Steel plant in

Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan

.

The contract was awarded by LSIS, a South Korean contractor and manufacturer of electrical equipment, for an SVC Light rated at -10/+90 Mvar at 22kV, for stabilising the voltage feeding an electric arc furnace (EAF), as well as for mitigation of electric disturbances emanating from the steel-making process.

SVC Light is part of ABB’s FACTS portfolio, which covers a number of technologies that enhance the security, capacity and flexibility of power transmission and distribution systems.
