This week’s video comes from ARCA Space Corporation, which is set to launch a $14,900 hover board onto the market in April.
The so-called ArcaBoard achieves lift via 36 high-power electric ducted fans (EDFs) with a maximum thrust of 200kgf (430lbs).
The EDFs, together with the controllers and the batteries, occupy 90% of the space inside the board, which is made from ‘aerospace grade’ composite materials. Heat is dissipated with what’s described as high performance cooling system and rider stability is assured via the board’s built-in stabilisation unit, which can be disabled if the rider has a mind to do so.
The 272HP board comes in two versions – enhanced thrust and long endurance – and can lift riders weighing up to 110kg to a maximum height of 30cm at speeds of up to 20km/h.
