Motorola to take merger leap

Motorola has signed a merger agreement to buy communications software developer Leapstone Systems, which provides a platform for rapidly creating, managing and delivering video, voice and data service bundles.

The agreement is subject to standard closing conditions, including the approval of Leapstone Systems shareholders.

Leapstone’s flagship product includes the Communication Convergence Engine (CCE) software, which is a real-time service delivery platform that allows fixed and mobile network operators to expand their services through the Service Broker and Content Manager software products. Its customers include service providers AT&T and Verizon Wireless.

The transaction is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2007, and other terms of the agreement were undisclosed.
