Nuclear collaboration

Experts need to work together to overcome the challenges facing the UK nuclear industry, according to the chairman of a meeting on radiological safety.

David Simister, who will be chairing the Society for Radiological Protection's meeting on ‘Hazard versus Risk: Finding a Balance’, said the UK nuclear industry is undergoing a radical change that requires increased collaboration among the public and private sectors.

In April, the government released a list of 11 potential sites in England and Wales for the next generation of nuclear power stations, reviving interest in the nuclear debate.

The Society for Radiological Protection's meeting will bring together industry experts at the Risley nuclear campus near Warrington to discuss the challenges facing the industry.

Simister said: 'Risley has long been a centre for innovation in radiological protection, so it is fitting that we are able to host what will prove to be an important event to discuss the industry's future there.

‘The meeting will be a valuable and timely opportunity for industry professionals, particularly for those based in the north west, to update their knowledge on the cutting edge of nuclear developments.’
