Nuclear industry must earn our trust

The nuclear industry can’t even deal with the stuff it’s been churning out for years, let alone whatever waste is produced by an expanded nuclear programme.

Sorry, but I think you are on the wrong track over nuclear energy. (Comment and News, 29 March).

As an occasional reader of your magazine, it is quite clear that you see nuclear as a ‘good thing’ that can steer us towards a happier future if it’s managed correctly.

But your news story ‘Make haste on waste’ shows that the nuclear industry can’t even deal with the stuff it’s been churning out for years, let alone whatever waste is produced by an expanded nuclear programme.

Why on earth should we trust this industry to get it right tomorrow when it can’t clean up its act today?
