Siemens Transportation Systems and Russian Railways today signed a € 1.5 billion contract for the development of high-speed trains for Russia.

(TS) and Russian Railways (RZD) today signed a contract for the development of high-speed trains for

The delivery contract comprises a project volume up to € 1.5 billion and is scheduled for signing in the summer of this year. RZD intends to place orders for sixty trains, which can travel at up to 300 kilometres per hour.

The trains are due to run mainly on the MoscowSt. Petersburg and St. PetersburgHelsinki routes. It is also envisaged in the medium term that they should link other Russian cities.

The trains are to be largely produced in Russia. Delivery of the first train is planned towards the end of 2007.
