I write with a question that has constantly nagged at me and has resurfaced this week with the latest news of water shortages.


Why is it that, after all these years and articles about this dilemma, we have not woken up to the main solution: we live on an island, ergo we are surrounded by water!


Surely it’s time water companies were forced to do more to turn sea water into water fit to drink and use by businesses and households. We have a never-ending supply literally on the doorstep and still we moan about lack of rain.


What happens in hotter European countries who get less rain than us and are not coastal?


Could we utilise some of their methods, or is that they don’t lose as much as our water companies because they manage leaks better?
