Stopping non-payment in its tracks

An American company has developed technology that promises to bring people who default on their car repayments to a grinding halt - literally.

Payment Protection Systems developed their On Time system for car dealers and finance companies to remind customers when payment is due and disable the vehicle if payments are not made.

A key pad system uses a numbered sequence of coloured lights to remind and cajole customers into making payments. An LED will flash green to confirm when payments are current. When a payment is due, the flashing LED will turn yellow, and the customer will be aware that a payment must be made. This then starts a three-day countdown, after which, if a payment is not made, the vehicle will not start.

PPS is also available with GPS and anti-tamper options to prevent the device being disabled and to allow the dealer to locate and retrieve the vehicle.
