TEK Microsystems

has announced the formation of TEK Microsystems Limited, a subsidiary design, engineering and support centre in Malvern, Worcestershire.

The centre will extend the product development and distribution relationship between TEK Microsystems and the Real Time Embedded Systems (RTES) group of Qinetiq. The Malvern centre will focus on further development of the VXS-based products and cores originally designed by Qinetiq and now licensed to TEK Microsystems. The centre will also provide customer support services for TEK Microsystems’ customers throughout Europe.

‘Our relationship with Qinetiq has spurred significant growth at Tekmicro’, said Andrew Reddig, president and CEO/CTO of TEK Microsystems. ‘This is the next step in our corporate evolution as we now take the leadership role of developing world class VXS products based on the technologies that Qinetiq has created. By integrating the development team in Malvern with our engineering and operations groups and taking advantage of our existing technology base, we will be able to offer customers an increasing range of product options with improvements in FPGA technology, ruggedisation and higher levels of integration.’

Dr. Bill Smith, managing director of TEK Microsystems Limited, said: ‘TEK Microsystems Limited will continue the tradition of customer innovation and commitment that we established under the Qinetiq banner. Tekmicro now provides more VXS-based products than anyone in the embedded industry and we look forward to maintaining that leadership role.’

TEK Microsystems Limited initially includes a staff of five senior engineers, all former Qinetiq employees. Products in development include additional system-on-chip technologies and VXS system development using the latest FPGA technologies.
