Trains in Spain for Bombardier

Bombardier Transportation has signed a €416m contract with Spanish National Railways (RENFE) to supply 100 TRAXX F140 DC locomotives for freight transport. The contract also includes a 14-year maintenance service agreement for this fleet of locomotives.

Delivery of the first freight locomotives is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2008 and continue until 2010.

In accordance with the contractual agreements, a portion of the vehicles will be manufactured by Bombardier at RENFE’s site in Villaverde, near Madrid. The MITRAC propulsion systems will also be manufactured by Bombardier in Spain at its Trapaga facility, Biscay.

The TRAXX F140 DC locomotives are designed for freight transportation in 3kV DC networks at maximum traveling speeds of 140km/h.
