The US Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command has awarded a contract for $19.9m to General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada to supply 44 RG-31 Mk5 mine protected vehicles.
Under this contract, General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada will provide programme management, while BAE Land Systems OMC of South Africa will manufacture the vehicles. Deliveries will take place from October 2007 to November 2007.
The RG-31 Mk5 is the latest model in the RG-31 vehicle family. The US military have previously ordered a total of 448 RG-31 vehicles, including 289 Mk5s.
The vehicles are designed to be effective against mines, improvised explosive devices and ballistic threats, and have been employed by US and allied forces in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
