3D bedtime fun

Researchers at Manchester University have teamed up with Character World and Brand 360 to develop a range of 3D Spider-Man duvet covers and bed linen.

Researchers at Manchester University have teamed up with the textile company Character World and brand management firm Brand 360 to develop a range of 3D Spider-Man duvet covers and bed linen.

A novel digital processing and printing technique is used to incorporate both 2D and 3D imagery on the bedding material. This means that when viewing them normally, a striking Spider-Man image can be seen, but when 3D glasses are worn, a third dimension instantly becomes apparent.

The technology, developed by the researchers at the Manchester University's School of Materials and Tri-D Textiles - a company started by academics at the University - will feature exclusively in the autumn/winter Argos catalogue.

Prof Robert Young, head of Manchester University's school of materials, said that the researchers would continue to work with Character World and Brand 360 to bring yet more innovative products to the market.
