Mayor of London Boris Johnson has announced a £3.9m package to expand the advisory service supporting the capital’s manufacturing sector during the economic downturn.

According to the mayor, the funding for the Manufacturing Advisory Service will help small and medium-sized manufacturers become more competitive in their markets in order to improve London’s prospects when the upturn arrives.

The government’s support is part of the London Development Agency's (LDA's) 'Solutions for Business' programme and will provide professional advice through workshops led by consultants with expertise across the field.

Targeted businesses will include those with high growth potential that have a focus on implementing efficient production methods and securing new markets.

Johnson said: ‘London’s manufacturers have the opportunity to capitalise on the great technological innovations and advancements that are sweeping across this sector. This new investment will allow many more manufacturers to access the wealth of vital advice that is on offer.
