Safety strategy

Engineering and risk management consultancy, ESR Technology, has been awarded a contract by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to develop guidelines on the safety of ageing process plant.

Building on previous research carried out by the HSE and Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL), the contract will see ESR Technology targeting and prioritising the issues associated with ageing industrial assets in the UK.

The study, which began in September 2008, will run until mid-2009 and is hoped to improve assessment, intervention and enforcement strategies among industry regulators.

Phil Ramskill, ESR Technology’s project director, said: ‘ESR Technology is delighted to be working with the Health and Safety Executive in this whole area of ageing plant. This is a subject that is of great importance to industry as we look ahead to how best ensure asset integrity and the safe management of ageing plant across sectors.’
