$15 million fuses

Alliant Techsystems has received a production contract valued at approximately $15 million for M-228 practice grenade fuses.

The contract was awarded through the US Army Field Support Command, Rock Island, Illinois. If all options are exercised, the total value of the contract could be worth approximately $57 million. Work on the contract will be performed at the company's Allegany Ballistics Laboratory in Rocket Center, West Virginia.

ATK designs, develops and produces fuses for gun projectiles, bombs, and other ordnance systems. The company currently manufactures fuses for the M782 multi-option fuse for Artillery, the DSU-33 C/B proximity sensor for air-dropped bombs, and the FMU-139 C/B electronic impact/impact delay fuse for both guided and unguided bombs.

The fuse for the M-228 practice grenade will allow the US Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps to properly train their staff in the use of currently fielded grenades. This fuse will allow for a time delay before detonation to replicate actual combat applications.
