Andritz awarded biomass boiler orders

Andritz, an Austria-based technology manufacturer, has been awarded orders worth more than €80m to supply biomass-fuelled steam boilers for power plants in Spain and Portugal.
Spain’s Grupo Empresarial ENCE and Portucel in Portugal placed the orders for boilers based on fluidised bed combustion technology.
Andritz will supply a 170MW high pressure steam boiler plant for the Spanish company’s pulp mill in Huelva, Spain, and one of its fuel sources will be forest residues. When completed, the plants are expected to generate 50MWe of electricity for the grid.
In Portugal, Andritz will deliver steam boilers for Portucel’s future power plants at its Cacia and Setubal mills. Each boiler will be fuelled by mainly eucalyptus and pine and have an output of 15MWe.
All the plants are scheduled for start-up by the end of 2009.
