Laser vendor

Coherent

has bought the privately held German firm of TuiLaser for approximately 22.5 million Euros.

TuiLaser is a designer and manufacturer of excimer and advanced solid-state lasers for scientific, OEM medical, and industrial applications. For its fiscal year ending September 2004, TuiLaser recorded sales of approximately 24.0 million Euros.

TuiLaser’s product line includes infrared and green solid-state lasers that compliment Coherent’s solid-state laser products.

The acquisition provides Coherent with a strong market presence in all classes of excimer lasers, from low to high power, in all markets with the exception of lithography.

Last year, the Santa Clara, CA-based laser manufacturer announced that its Lambda Physik subsidiary would discontinue future product development and investments in the semiconductor lithography market after it decided that its LithoTex laser would not generate a satisfactory economic return.
