Gateshead’s Responsive Engineering Wins Second Accolade at Training Awards

A Gateshead engineering company has won a second accolade from the National Training Awards (NTA) for its commitment to staff development and training.

The Team Valley-based Responsive Engineering Group won the award at the recent North East NTA ceremony held at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead.

This latest success follows a similar award in 2004.

Responsive Engineering Group incorporates the Streamline Kingsway, Weldex and Pressex businesses, which together provide specialist water jet and laser cutting, precision engineering, welding, pressing and assembly services.

The company employs 115 people and last year initiated a £2 million investment programme to expand its subcontract engineering services.

The NTA judges gave the award as they felt that Responsive Engineering showed great potential and that it expressed a dedication to excellence through training.

Managing director Peter Bernard said: “The award is great news and reflects the Group’s very strong commitment to training and investment to improve skill levels and add value to customer service excellence.

“The focus on business processes and improving our knowledge and understanding in these areas has had a huge positive impact on the bottom line through the development programme.

“Higher levels of skill across the company have been key to us growing, winning new business and achieving greater profitability in a competitive sector.”

Responsive Engineering has expanded its core business over the few years and now undertakes contract work in the oil and gas, power generation, aerospace, defence, medical and scientific industries for multinational operators.

It recently won the contract to provide ground-breaking work in designing and building a spectacular landmark feature - called The Cone - as part of the redevelopment of the National Maritime Museum and Royal Observatory in Greenwich.

This and other high profile architectural metalwork projects including the Scottish Parliament and Heathrow T5 have helped propel the Group to this latest success.
