Ground-mounted solar plant planned for Cornwall

Berkshire-based project developer 35 Degrees has reached an agreement with solar module and systems maker Solon to build a 1.3MWp solar power plant near Bissoe in Cornwall.

Once the necessary planning permits for the energy park have been approved, it could be the first ground-mounted solar power plant ever built in the UK.

The agreement between the two companies calls for Solon to plan, engineer, procure and construct the turnkey plant with a local contractor, and then deliver it to 35 Degrees.

35 Degrees was founded as a project-development company in February this year and is currently planning to install 100MWp of solar energy over the next five years within the UK, concentrating on the South West of England.

Solon’s monocrystalline Black 280/11 modules will be used in the photovoltaic power plant, which is to be built on the three-hectare grounds of a former tin-ore processing plant.

Once construction is complete, the solar power plant will generate about 1.25 million kilowatt hours of solar power annually.
