Bombardier

has won an $89 million contract to supply its CX-100 Automated People Mover (APM) system for

Beijing's Capital International Airport

.

The scope of the project includes all the electrical and mechanical systems for the 2 kilometre system. There is also an option for the company to provide two years of operation and maintenance services.

Bombardier’s Pittsburgh, US facility will be responsible for project management, systems engineering and integration, testing and commissioning, in addition to the design and supply of the 11 CX-100 vehicles and the Bombardier Cityflo 550 automated train control technology.

The new APM system will operate on a dual-guideway between two stations and will serve T3 - a new terminal which is currently being built. Designed to carry 4,100 passengers per hour in each direction, the CX-100 vehicles can be operated with one to four carriages. It is expected that the system itself will be finished by December 2007.

Bombardier has already supplied CX-100 systems for airports in Kuala Lumpur, Frankfurt, Rome, Houston, Tampa, and San Francisco, and the soon to be operational Barajas (Madrid) International Airport in Spain, where Bombardier will also deploy its Cityflo 550 automatic train control technology.
