Siemens Power Generation has received a €100m order from RWE Innogy to supply 33 2.3MW wind turbines for wind farms RWE is building in Poland.
The wind turbines are to be installed at the Suwalki project in Masuria and Tychowo in Western Pomerania and are scheduled to start generating power by autumn 2009.
Eighteen SWT-2.3-93 wind turbines will be installed at the Suwalki wind farm, while fifteen identical design wind turbines will be erected on the Tychowo site.
Siemens will also be responsible for the commissioning and erection of the turbines. In addition, RWE Innogy has signed a service contract with Siemens for five years.
Poland is said to rank among Europe’s most promising wind energy markets. Estimates by the Polish Wind Energy Association (PWEA) indicate that over 13,000MW of wind power generating capacity could be installed in Poland by 2020.
Wind turbines that feed power into the Polish grid today have a modest total capacity of less than 300MW, despite the outstanding wind conditions prevailing in large sections of the country.
