Siemens Power Generation Group
(PG) is to acquire 100 per cent of the shares in the German turbine company
Kühnle, Kopp & Kausch(KK&K) for an undisclosed amount.
KK&K develops, manufactures and markets steam turbines with a rating of up to 5MW. It also makes turbocompressors and fans for industrial applications. The company recorded sales of around €270 million in 2005 and has a workforce of approximately 1,400. The takeover is subject to the approval of the anti-trust authorities.
Siemens said the acquisition would extend its product portfolio in the industrial applications market segment into the lower output range. They will now be able to offer industrial steam turbines from 45KW to 180MW.
Turbines made by the KK&K group are used to generate electric power or as mechanical drives, in applications such as wood and paper processing. They are also used in the chemical and petrochemical industry, and in the steel, textiles and foodstuffs industries. The company's turbocompressors are used in various chemical processes, in the water resources and effluent management industry and in ore extraction.
