Siemens shuttle for Venice

Doppelmayr Italia has placed an order with Siemens’ Industry Solutions (IS) division for electrical equipment for a Cable Liner Shuttle in Venice.

The fully automatic, cable-hauled public rapid transit system will run along an 830m-shuttle line between the artificial island of Tronchetto and the Piazzale Roma.

Two trains, each with a capacity of 200 people, will commute between the stations at a speed of just under 30kph.

Siemens’ Innsbruck, Austria-based IS division will supply the drives, the vehicle and station equipment and the automatic train control system.

The final customer of the shuttle is a Venetian company called Azienda Servizi Mobilità, and operation of the shuttle is scheduled to start in 2009.
