Smiths Detection has won a $21m contract to supply the US Transportation Security Administration with X-ray machines that can automatically detect explosives and liquids

has won a $21m contract to supply the

(TSA) with X-ray machines that can automatically detect explosives and liquids. The TSA also awarded Smiths Detection with a $650,000 contract to supply SABRE 4000 hand-held explosive detection scanners.

Advanced Threat Identification X-ray (aTiX) uses multiple views and algorithms to help users detect liquids and explosives. The TSA awarded the contract after successful trials were run at airports and aTiX will now be deployed to airports around the US.

‘This advancement is a significant innovation in security detection technology for passenger checkpoints and represents a leap forward.’ said Stephen Phipson, Smiths Detection group managing director. ‘This contract win is another important milestone for our company, as well as a significant growth opportunity.'
