Test success for unmanned Stryker

General Dynamics Robotic Systems says it has successfully completed Phase I of the Future Combat Systems Robotic Convoy Experiment at White Sands Missile Range.

. During the trials the unmanned Stryker vehicle reached speeds of up to 34mph.

As part of the company’s Autonomous Navigation System (ANS) contract with the US Army, the Phase I experiment tested basic robotic convoy functionality and accuracy with obstacle detection and avoidance technology.

‘We received positive results from our team at White Sands,’ said Phil Cory, president of General Dynamics Robotic Systems. ‘The current preparations position us for a successful Phase II experiment in July 2008.’

Vehicles expected to take part in Phase II testing include Stryker, Light Medium Tactical Vehicle (LMTV) and Medium Tactical Vehicles (MTV).

The robotic experiment is being funded under a contract to develop the ANS for FCS.
