BP Norge has awarded Aker Kvaerner a £179.4m contract for detail engineering, procurement and construction management assistance (EPcma) for the Skarv field development in the Norwegian Sea.
The contract covers work to be done on a 16,000 tonne floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit’s topsides as well as construction management assistance to BP.
The FPSO will be installed 200km west of Sandnessjøen, Norway, and the development will also include the Idun gas field discovered in 1999. The Skarv oil and gas field was discovered in 1998.
Discovered in 1998, the Skarv oil and gas field is expected to enter production in August 2011.
The contract is subject to final approval by the Norwegian parliament.
