RWE Innogy aims to develop two wind farms at Masuria and Pomerania in Poland which together will generate 200MW of power.

Regulatory approval for the farms is expected to be granted before the end of the year, and the first systems are due to come on stream in 2010.

In Poland, energy utilities have to provide 10.4 per cent of energy consumption from renewable energy sources by the year 2010. By 2020, this level is required to increase to at least 15 per cent.

To achieve this aim, 4000MW of wind power capacity will have to come on stream by 2010. At present, only around 300MW of wind power capacity is connected to the grid in the country.
