Yasa powers up e-motor production capacity

Electric motor manufacturer YASA is ramping up output at its newly expanded production centre in Yarnton, Oxfordshire.

A £12m investment at the site will now enable the Oxford University spinout to deliver 25,000 of its axial flux motors per year. The motors are claimed to be four times more power dense than existing electric motors, with the technology already deployed across several Ferrari and Lamborghini hybrids. Having been bought by Mercedes in 2021, YASA is now scaling up operations to meet demand from the German auto giant as well as explore opportunities in other sectors, including marine.

“With a multi-million-pound investment into our Yarnton facility, we have transformed our manufacturing capability and significantly accelerated our production capacity,” said YASA founder and CTO, Tim Woolmer.

“This latest initiative will enable us to apply our technology with even greater accuracy, pace and scale. Combined with Yasa’s position as part of the Mercedes-Benz Group, the factory transformation consolidates YASA’s role as a global leader in developing high-performance, high-efficiency axial-flux e-motors.”
