Telent, a Coventry-based technology services company, has been awarded a £25m contract by Wales-based EADS Defence & Security for work on England’s Fire and Rescue service’s FiReControl project.

Under the eight-year contract, Telent will provide communications infrastructure for the project, which aims to create nine regional control centres (RCCs) to replace the existing 46 fire control rooms based at local fire brigades in England.

As well as designing and installing the communications equipment in the RCCs, Telent will also equip the 1,410 fire stations in England with their communications technology, and provide ongoing maintenance and support.

‘Telent has established a reputation for designing, installing and maintaining critical networks for emergency services and large enterprises,’ said Mark Plato, CEO of Telent. ‘This contract win follows our selection by Airwave last year to support the deployment of its Airwave Communications system as part of the National Firelink Programme.’
