Thenergo, a combined heat and power (CHP) energy company has signed a contract to develop an electricity and biocoal park in northern
The five megawatt plant, or E-park, will be built in partnership with Eclair-E, a Dutch CHP energy supplier, and Venture Kapitaalfonds III, a subsidiary of NV NOM, the investment and development agency for the northern
The E-park will generate annual power of up to 42,800MWh and 75 kilotonnes of biocoal pellets.
Biocoal is thermally processed wood debris, forest residue and chippings. As a water-resistant pellet, it is a multipurpose, renewable, clean burning fuel that is easy to handle and store for long periods without decay.
Construction of the park, which will be located on the Dutch-German border near Coevorden, will begin in April 2008, and is expected to be fully operational within 18 months.
