No loopholes for pipe expansion

Kinder Morgan Canada has started construction work on the £209m Anchor Loop project, the second phase of the Trans Mountain pipeline system expansion.

As part of the expansion, 158km of the Trans Mountain Pipeline will be built through rugged terrain in Jasper National Park and Mount Robson Provincial Park. The project is scheduled for completion in November 2008, when the capacity is expected to be increased from 260,000 to 300,000 barrels of oil per day.

Trans Mountain transports crude oil and refined products from Edmonton, Alberta, to marketing terminals and refineries in British Columbia and Washington State.

Earlier this year, capacity of the pipeline was increased from 225,000 to 260,000 barrels per day thanks to the installation of 11 new pump stations commissioned by Kinder Morgan Canada.
