Rolls supports offshore expansion

ExxonMobil has awarded Rolls-Royce a contract to deliver two 40,000 horsepower RB211-6562 gas compression units to a Nigerian offshore project.

has been awarded a contract from

ExxonMobil

for gas turbine packages for an offshore

Nigeria

project in one of the most prolific oil and gas regions in the world.

Two 40,000 horsepower RB211-6562 gas compression units will be supplied for the East Area NGL II Project, to work alongside five identical units ordered in 2003 for the East Area Additional Oil Recovery (AOR) Project.

The Rolls-Royce equipment will be used in conjunction with a gas expander to recover the natural gas liquids (NGL) from the multiple reservoirs in the East Area fields, some 32 kilometres offshore Nigeria in water depths of 26 to 34 metres. The project is scheduled to start-up in 2008.

Gas from the fields will also be used to fuel the turbines, minimising gas flaring from six joint-venture East Area fields.

The Rolls-Royce gas turbines for this phase of the East Area project will be engineered, packaged and tested at the company's Mount Vernon facilities in the United States. Delivery will be in the second quarter of 2006.
