Siemens to supply coal-fired plant

Siemens Power Generation has signed a contract with German utilities company RWE Power to supply a web-based control system for a lignite-fired plant in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Siemens Power Generation (PG) has signed a contract with German utilities company RWE Power to supply a web-based control system for a lignite-fired plant in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The plant is under construction in Grevenbroich-Neurath. As well as the control system, Siemens will deliver the transformers and drive turbines for the feed water pumps for the plant. The total order value is more than €90 million.

Siemens PG has already delivered the largest steam turbine set built to date and the main control system for the lignite-fired power plant in Niederaussem. This has been in operation since 2003.

RWE Power is constructing a double block plant with a total capacity of 2,100MW at the Grevenbroich-Neurath site. The control system Siemens PG is deploying is the first fourth-generation fully web-based control system to be installed.
