The wind turbines to be supplied by Siemens have a rotor diameter of 120m and are rated at 3.6MW each.
Dan Tysk Offshore Wind, a joint venture company of Vattenfall and Stadtwerke München (SWM), has invested €1bn (£0.9bn) in the project.
Construction of the 70km2 wind farm is set to start in 2012. When it comes online in 2014, it will have an output of around 1,320GWh and will be capable of supplying 500,000 homes with electricity, based on an average electricity consumption of 2,500kWh per home.
Vattenfall will be responsible for the construction and the operation of the wind farm.
According to the Swedish energy company, the first supplier contracts have been signed and foundational construction and the laying of cable are currently being negotiated.
