SKF awarded Trent 1000 contract

Rolls-Royce has chosen SKF to be the primary supplier of main shaft bearings and related components for the Trent 1000 engine programme.

In addition, SKF will partner with Kawasaki Heavy Industries of Japan in producing components for the compressor section of the Trent 1000.

SKF Aeroengine Bearings UK, already a supplier of bearings for Trent 500, Trent 700 and Trent 800 engines, will be the primary manufacturer of the bearings.

SKF will manufacture all eight main shaft bearings plus three shafts to each engine and first deliveries to Rolls-Royce are planned for November 2005.

The Trent 1000 is the launch engine on Boeing’s latest aircraft, the 787 Dreamliner. The Trent 1000 engine is expected to have a minimum 25-year life with spares and aftermarket business during that time.
