Robot goes searching in the sun for another overload

A robot designed to traverse utility lines and search for damage and other problems has been developed by mechanical engineers at the University of California, San Diego.

The SkySweeper robot is made from off-the-shelf electronics and plastic parts printed on a 3D printer.

It’s claimed SkySweeper could be scaled up for less than $1,000, making it significantly more economical than robots currently used to inspect power lines.
