The

Guangzhou Metro Corporation

(GMC), Guangzhou Municipality, China, has awarded

Bombardier Transportation

a €53m contract for a fully automated people mover (APM) system. The 4km Zhujiang Xincheng Central District Passenger Automatic Transportation System is scheduled for completion in June 2010.

The APM system, the first ever in China to be deployed in an urban environment, is the same CX-100 technology that Bombardier Transportation is currently installing at Beijing Capital International Airport. The dual-lane, underground system for Guangzhou will serve the Zhujiang Xincheng Central District of Guangzhou City. Four of the system’s nine stations will provide connections to Lines 1, 3 and 5 of the Guangzhou City metro network.

Bombardier Transportation's facility in Pennsylvania will be responsible for the design and supply of 14 CX-100 vehicles and the CITYFLO 650 automatic train control system, as well as 18 guideway switches, to be fabricated in China. Bombardier Transportation will work in partnership with GMC who will supply the power systems, communications and platform screen doors. GMC will carry out design and construction of the tunnels and stations according to Bombardier specifications.

Bombardier Transportation is currently implementing APM systems for Beijing Capital, Las Vegas McCarran and Heathrow International Airports.
