Representatives and Canada and Chile have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to develop geospatial knowledge in both countries.
Under the agreement, urban development planning and environmental projects will be carried out using tools that include remote sensing and satellite imagery. Chile will employ Canada’s expertise and models of Canada’s Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) to develop its own national Land Information System and SDI.
‘This agreement shows that Canada’s New Government is taking concrete steps to revive and expand Canadian political and economic engagement in the Americas,’ said Gary Lunn, Minister of Natural Resources in Canada.
‘This mapping agreement will enhance the sustainable development of Canada and Chile’s natural resources. Over the next few years, we will use the innovative technologies and specialised expertise of Canadian companies to assist Chile in developing its land information system.’
