Selling lasers

San Jose, CA-based JDS Uniphase has sold its passive Q-switched microlaser product line to Teem Photonics.

JDS Uniphase will exclusively license to Teem the intellectual property behind the lasers, including a number of patents.

And, in addition, it will continue to supply the Grenoble, France-based company with components critical to the manufacture of the microlasers, ensuring no disruption of customer supply.

"The divestiture enables us to focus management attention, sales resources and R&D on our leading solid state laser portfolio," said Phillip Meredith, vice president of JDS Uniphase's Commercial Laser Business Unit, in a statement.

Financial details of the transaction, which is expected to close during the current calendar quarter, were not disclosed.
